Gadar: Ek Prem Katha is a 2001 Hindi-language romantic period action drama film directed by Anil Sharma based on a 1947 Indian Partition-era story by Shaktimaan Talwar. The movie, which is loosely based on the life of Boota Singh, stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Amrish Puri, Lillete Dubey, and Vivek Shauq in the key parts. Utkarsh Sharma, a young actor, portrays the role of Deol and Patel’s son. Out of 500 girls who tried out for the part, Patel was chosen to play Sakeena.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which had a $4.03 million ($190 million) budget, debuted in theatres worldwide on June 15, 2001, competing with Ashutosh Gowariker’s sports film Lagaan.Despite receiving negative and positive reviews from critics, the movie managed to earn over 768.8 million (US$16.29 million) net in India and 1.33 billion (US$28.19 million) globally, with a distributor share of 546 million (US$11.57 million). It became the highest-grossing Hindi movie since Hum Aapke Hain Koun! (1994). Gadar: With more than 50 million Indian viewers, Ek Prem Katha is the second-most-watched Hindi movie since the 1990s. According to ticket sales from 2017, its adjusted revenue in India was 4.86 billion rupees (US$103 million).
